Dries Van Noten, a Belgian fashion designer shows in his collections truly Parisian style. Such celebrities as Cate Blanchett and Maggie Gyllenhall have already valued it and now it’s time for us to look at him closer.
Dries Van Noten was born in Antwerp, the Belgian capital of fashion, and he knows perfectly how to shine on a catwalk. Eleven years have passed since he showed his designs in the Paris Fashion Week for the first time and he still can amaze connoiseurs.
Fashion in his blood
He comes from a family of tailors. During the II World War his grandfather started remaking second hand clothes and presenting them to the public. When Dries Van Noten was a child, his father used to take him to fashion shows in Paris, Düsseldorf and Milan so he learnt a lot about the profession. Subsequently he realized that he would rather create designs himself than sell clothes made by others.
He graduated in the Antwerp´s Royal Academy and at the same time he started working as a freelance designer for a Belgian manufacturer. A real success came in 1986 and he opened a showroom in Paris. Some years later he already had boutiques in Paris, Tokyo, Singapour, Kuwait, Qatar, Hongkong and New York.
Collection 2011-2012
The new spring/summer 2011-2012 collection is quite minimalistic. Above all are sober and neutral colors (white, black and gray highlights) but garments are often decorated with patterns of vegetation in oriental style, neon light and even night photographs of urban landscapes.
We also can see some pink and orange garments, that make the simplicity of the whole outfit more entertaining. As principal piece the designer use a bolero jacket, perfect complement to any of the styles presented on the catwalk.
Volume and forms for shirts, that are adjusted the body sculpture. Even a biker jacket appears to give more life to the rest of the garments.
On the contrary, the trousers and skirts are more volume but less attracting, what helps to concentrate all the attention in the top part.
