A tribute to the past of Hasselt
The exhibition Collectie#01 of the Fashion Museum of Hasselt definitely pays an homepage to the textile industry; an activity that was the heart of the town’s prosperity for six centuries. The clothes and accessories displayed are in any case, much more than that; they are a look back into human history from the middle of the XVII Century to the present time.

Collection of styles represent differences of times
Now the more competitive Asian markets have pushed the Flanders area away off the waving market. Although until the end of the XX Century, the eyes of Flanders, the Walloon provinces, Holland and Germany looked in Hasselt for stylish clothes and luxury accessories. But the love for fashion is still there, you can see it in the streets, full of renowned shops and well dress people passing-by. Or you can see it in the Fashion Museum until March.

Campbell dress made by Andy Warhol
Collectie#01
Numbers are one thing that can explain the nature of the exhibition: 14.000 pieces, 300 mannequin and 250 years written on the pleats of unique clothing. In some cases the pieces are on display for the 1st time. But numbers only grasp a portion of the attractive that the collection possess, the rest has to come from the eye.
There is no discussion about the eye catching quality of this clothes, from the Andy Warhol dress of Cambell’s soup print paper to the crown jewel of the museum; a Robe à la françoise from the half of the XVIII Century. Everything is beautiful at the museum and details are always looked after, included the environment for the exhibition. The building holding Collectie#01 is the result of the collaboration between architect Luc Vanroye and designer Vittorio Simoni.
