Modern Belgian fashion by An Vandevorst

There are several ways to discover this world. Some like to do it through science, others like to investigate the evolution of  arts. The new exhibition of Hasselt Fashion Museum gives us the opportunity to follow the historical changes by  learning  peculiarities of clothes in different ages.

We don’t know exactly when people first started wearing clothes, but approximately it was between 100,000 to 500,000 years ago.

Soon after it clothes became not only the way to protect body from weather conditions, but to indicate the status of a person. Later on clothes began to perform a decorative function. Some of them became a real masterpieces.

More than just clothes

One of the primary functions of clothing was to keep warm

Collection#01 introduced in the Modemuseum of Hasselt shows us western fashion history from 1750 until today. We can follow how the rules of society has been changing. It is interesting that there are huge gender differences in fashion. Changes in women’s fashion are more evident and bright.  However the collection represents men’s and children’s fashion as well. Some knowledge of historical background helps to understand features of styles better.
